Name: Jan Age: 21 Element: Earth Style: Tai Chi Gar Residence: none Eyes: Brown Hair: Black Skin: tanned Height: 6' 6" Info: In his short life, Jan had to experience many gruesome things. At the age of 6, his family and friends were mercilessly hunted down and killed by the Dai Lee, because they've formed a group called "Hidden Freedom", trying to open the eyes and minds of the people inside the walls of Ba Sing Sei. Only he survived, as he was rescued by Nothern Water Tribe spies and taken to safety to the North Pole, as it was the dying wish of his mother. 15 years have passed since... Jan has travelled the world, seen and learned many things, strengthening his body and especially his mind. He joined the Earth Rumble VII by coincidence, as he wants to test his own strength before he sets out for his initially mission: To rot out the Dai Lee Special: Jan's a earth bender alright, but living and training with waterbenders has left marks on his fighting style which heavily influenced by Tai Chi, the trademark waterbender style. But this influence allowed him to develop an earthbending style unseen before. I'm not revealing it yet, but his glasses are made by this bending. 8D Let the guessing begin. Now how could an earthbender learn earthbending on the North Pole, where's no single patch of earth? Well, there IS one little patch of earth... fans know what I'm talking about. The Möbius bracelet he's wearing is made of that earth and he needs it for a very special kind of earthbending. Gosh, I really need to learn how to draw T_T Or at least design decent clothes. I decided to dress him into something similar like Sokka's robe (typical watertribe, even though Southern and not Nothern), just having the colours yellow and green, instead of the shades of blue. He'll be redesigned anyway... if I'm not too lazy >_> But yeah, Jan would be really happy to see that a Dai Lee [link] is participating as well. Hmm... interesting. Harder to do, but the possibilities are there, for example things like quartz fracture really evenly, so if he smashes a lump of it, he can get many little shards to use as blades.
(Just so you know, I did a bit of amateur geology and metal-craft, something that came of that is being able to make both metal and stone tools, it's fun!)
Anyway, moving on... yeah, you don't need to learn any more than you have, you just need to practice every day.
Just go over a few key concepts again and again. Learn the absolute basics so thoroughly that nothing you create is actually complicated. I mean, something that could help you is practicing drawing how cloth hangs.
Stiff cloth over a single point, hanging between two points, flat over a rail, folded... Thin cloth, denim, silk. They all behave differently, and they all have slightly different outlines when you sketch them too. For example his sash/belt there: look at the right hand side at the top, you've made the cloth look thick because the lines are separate where they go around the back. Or in other words, the further apart the lines are when cloth turns a corner, whether they join at all or not, dictates to the eye how thick it is. You can also keep the amount of fold-lines in check by seeing how thick you're trying to draw the cloth (more for thin, less for thick)
Other than that... Draw stick-men. Circles, or balls, for the joints, and simple lines to join them up. When you can make a stickman look more realistic than one of your real drawings (shading, dynamic posing etc), then start to bulk them out by putting in more detail, like fingers and thumbs, maybe add in the shape of the ribcage and hips. As you go over the posing again and again, you'll get a feel for where will be fore-shortened and where won't. And as you add the bulk you'll be seeing how your proportioning is improving.
Meh, like I say, you don't need to learn anything. You just need to repeat the basics until your fingers bleed.
How do you think I've managed to get where I am in only two years? I practice again and again... when I can. I used to practice every day, but I've slacked off recently...
Any questions about what to look at, just ask. I've got a hundred and one different ideas for you to practice. If you can master all of them, you'll be better than me XD (No... really, I don't take my own advice, so if you master them all, you really will be better than me.)
And finally I'll add one thing:
When you say Avatar is copyright to 'the dudes from Nick'....
My mind saw my name, and at the exact same time linked back to the old show 'The Man from Uncle' (a spy show, if you didn't see it) because of the similarity in the phrasing.
Now if you notice, I'm an Agony Uncle.
This leads me to only one conclusion: The copyright belongs to me! Those men are from my secret organisation, sent to provide the world with shows that people will watch for years, or until the merchandise is exhausted. They are The Dudes from Uncle Nick!

"So he... wait, what the heck are you doing?"
"Spog."
"S-wha?"
"New word for belly-button fluff; Spog"
"Wow... raping the English language again I see. Genius. I knew I kept you around for a reason."

heh, that's what I'm doing with the abuse of dA stock ^^ Practice and practice and practice again and again and again. It helps immensely.... although I'm sort of *proud* that I managed to do this without reference, although one can see that... he came out far bulkier that I actually wanted XD
I only noticed it when I was done and looking at it from a bit afar... quite the WTF O.o-experience XD
anyways, I still want to learn a whole lot more about the anatomy and proportions, especially posing before I try myself on clothing, designs and details like folds and any other stuff (I still dread at drawing houses or other buildings... that I haven't improved since 2nd grade XD), besides drawing nekkid people is fun.
That's an awesome excuse to watch porn, by the way. Anatomy studies, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight XD
(No... really, I don't take my own advice, so if you master them all, you really will be better than me.)
oh lord, I know that XD I never take my own advice.
And now that you mention it, it all makes sense now, O:
All copyrightz belongs to thee XD
