Jeez, I sure took my time with these two @_@
Some more for the Fire Emblem fan fic.
Anyway, the second half of the TuS crew *AshuraMGS2SUB and *Almosee (first is here)

They say that people who dwell too deep in the dark arts of magic, don't return with their minds unscattered.
Neil probably proves this point. When Kraden and his crew pillaged through Neil's village, he was the only one to enjoy the chaos and decided to join Kraden and assist him with his powers as shaman. Ever since the TuS crew started to rob libraries as well to still Neil's desire for knowledge.
Natalie was a recruit in the Palace of Thesia. She was on night patrol when she caught Emily to flee and tried her hardest to bring her back, however, she didn't expect the lady to be so headstrong and stubborn, so Nat kept following her on her travels as a nagging voice to return to the palace... without any success.
As they stumbled upon the TuS crew and Emily joined Kraden on his adventures, Nat had no choice, but to follow, determined to bring Emily back (although she's not trying very hard, considering the fact that she enjoys this life of freedom just as much as Emily).
From the measly recruit however grew a powerful soldier with a lancearm to be feared.

I find it kind of weird that (at least in the GBA games) you have no soldiers on your side. They're either the bad guys or NPC cannon fodder you have to protect, which is hard considering they're dumb as foul eggs and are willing to attack enemies although they wouldn't deal one single point of damage *rage*
Anyway, Nat became a Soldier who would evolve into a lieutenant, being able to use Lances and Swords, with stats similar to Mercs, only that they would have less speed and skill, but more defence and resistence.

Wow :jawdrop: so awesome. God this inspires me to both steal these characters and go play fire emblem again.

On the solider point, weren't Saine and Kent technically soliders? Although, my memory is a little fuzzy *runs off to play it agian*

Ya, Kent and Sain (GAWD, I hate this womanizer, although his Supports are always lulzy) were technically soldiers of Cealin, but they're class is Cavalier, that evolves into a Paladin.
The class Soldier only appears as Enemy units and NPCs, you have to keep out of trouble (or use as cannon fodder, whatever floats your boat 8D)
But, as far as I know the class Soldier doesn't have an class change, so I just took Lieutenant, "A honorific bestowed upon the most veteran soldiers" and give him swords to add to the lances.
There are way to few non-riding lance users. Pegasus Knights are too fragile (seriously, train Florina from day one, she's the only one worth mentioning), if you don't take care of them and Wyvern Rider are so slow, it makes me cry. Knights are cool, but a bit variety doesn't hurt.

Go ahead, they are technically yours anyway XD
Watch it about playing again, tho, this game sucks up half your soul... I should know, I just restarted Eliwood's campaign. :shakefist:

I tend to forget what I wanted to say, when I start rambling (especially about video games)

Oh I see Soldier class, not Soldier character, my mistake. You are of course right. And keeping NPC soldiers alive is very frustrating, I mostly cannon fodder them (especially on the first run through of the first game). 'Knight' seems to be about the only 'military' class - maybe they just felt that 'soldier' was too low a class to fit into the campign. Since the characters tend towards generals and royalty, soldiers may be seen as too common.

Amen to the sucking of time thing, last time I played the two GBA games, I lost about a month of my life that seems to be nothing but a blur.
After I'd finished them, I wanted to learn Japanese just so I could go back and play the old ones.
Missed the one on the Gamecube waiting for it to come down in price; totally planning on getting the WII title when it's realeased though, even if I have to pay a horrifying ammount for it.
